Z Hillin was born at Jacksonville Naval Hospital. Her mother, Martha Zellner Webb, was born and raised in Jacksonville so Z spent most of the summers of her youth here in Jacksonville with her grandparents.
“I have a great love for the city of Jacksonville. As a Navy brat, we lived all over the USA and we were also often stationed abroad, in France, Italy and Greece.”
Z attended the University of Florida and did summer classes at Jacksonville University. Her first work station after college was with Delta Airlines for 5 years as a flight attendant based in Dallas, Texas. Z met and married her husband there and they had one son.
Z majored in Fine Arts since Dallas had a strong, large garment manufacturing industry. She left the airlines and worked for twelve years in the garment business as a designer of clothing and silkscreen prints. She then went on to be a textile agent working with all the designers at the manufacturing entities in the DFW metroplex. Z also served as a docent at the Kimball Museum of Fine Arts in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Z and family moved to Jacksonville from Dallas for her husband’s business in telecommunications and real estate. That business transferred to West Florida and they lived in Gulf Breeze, Florida for about ten years before returning to Jacksonville in 2007. In both Jacksonville and in Gulf Breeze over a 25 year period Z worked as a manufacturer’s representative in the gift industry.
